Questions, answered

What are electrolytes?

Electrolytes are minerals that carry an electrical charge when dissolved in water. The five main ones are sodium, potassium, magnesium, calcium and chloride, the same minerals lost in sweat. Electrolyte powders, tablets, capsules and drops supply them in measured amounts, and the nutrition panel on each product shows exactly how much is in a serve.

Which electrolyte should I buy?

Compare three things on the label: sodium per serve, sugar and format. High sodium mixes such as LMNT and Sodii have 1000 mg a serve and are the usual pick for long training sessions and hot days. Lower sodium options suit everyday sipping. Not sure? Our 60 second Electrolyte Finder and brand comparison page narrow it down by how you will use it.

What is the difference between electrolyte powders, tablets, capsules and drops?

They supply the same minerals in different ways. Single serve sticks and sachets are the easiest to carry. Tubs of powder usually cost the least per serve. Tablets dissolve in a bottle of water. Capsules have no taste, so they suit people who do not want a flavoured drink. Concentrated mineral drops mix into water or food and can cost under 30 cents a serve.

Are there sugar free electrolytes?

Yes. Most, but not all, electrolytes we stock have 0 g of sugar per serve, including LMNT, Sodii, Re-Lyte Hydration, SALTT and Ultima Replenisher. They are flavoured with sweeteners such as stevia or come unflavoured. Every product page lists sugar and sweetener in the nutrition details, and our Sugar Free Electrolytes collection gathers them in one place.

How much sodium is in an electrolyte drink?

It ranges from a few milligrams to 1000 mg per serve. Trace mineral drops sit at the low end, Re-Lyte Hydration has about 810 mg a scoop, and LMNT, Sodii and other high sodium mixes have 1000 mg. Sodium per serve is shown on every product page, so you can compare brands like for like before you buy.

Can I have electrolytes every day?

Many of our customers use electrolytes daily, often one serve with water in the morning or around training. Follow the serving size on the label. If you have been advised to limit your sodium or you take regular medication, check with your doctor or pharmacist before adding an electrolyte supplement.

How much do electrolytes cost per serve?

From about 20 cents a serve for concentrated mineral drops and bulk powders to around $2.10 to $2.30 for single serve sticks such as LMNT and Sodii. Tubs usually work out cheaper than sticks; Re-Lyte Hydration tubs are about $1.40 a serve. Every product card shows the price per serve, and Auto Delivery takes a further 5% off most of the range.
